Chapter 2; Part 2: October 30th
Joey was brought back to the present by the ringing of the telephone. She looked down the hall to see her Mother's back moving closer to the kitchen while she was mumbling to herself. Something about people calling so god-damned early in the morning and having no respect for those of us who actually sleep. Though her mom was already awake, it was something to complain about.
"Hello?" she said in such in irritable tone she might make Charles Manson cry.
"Hi Cathy, is Joey awake yet?"
Joey continued to stare at her Mom's back, wondering who was on the phone. She took a few steps foward, and her Mom slowly turned around, showing a slightly more pleasant look on her face.
"Yes, Steven, hold on a minute..."
Joey's face lit up and made a smile that she couldn't hide. Her Mom began to walk toward her but Joey was already running and grabbed the phone from her.
"Thanks Mom." Joey turned away and walked into her room and closed the door.
Cathy did the same as her daughter, but knocked on the door. "Joe, I'm gonna get in the shower now if your gonna be on the phone..."
"Okay, I don't care."
Cathy walked away and could hear Joey's muffled voice say, "Hey, isn't it kind of early......"
"...for you to be calling? You should of heard what my Mom was just saying. So, what's up?"
"Um, nothing really..."
"Nope. Come on. You called for a reason; probably a good reason too, because you are never awake this early. Now let's get on with it."
Steven was thinking. She was right.
"Forget it."
Joey heard a click. "Well that was weird..." she said outloud to herself, and walked down the hall and put the phone back on the reciever.
